"The Core"

Core strength is integral to improving functional movements, overall balance, stamina, and strength. "The core" is the anchor for all other body movements to occur.

Featured motor activity to build core strength and stability:
  1. Lying on back on the floor with knees bent and feet flat on the floor.
  2. Raise hips/buttocks off the floor to create a straight line from the shoulders to the knees. The "bridge" position.
  3. Hold for 1-3 seconds.
  4. Lower hips/buttocks to the floor.

Progression ideas:
  1. While holding the "bridge" position, march feet alternately.
  2. While holding the "bridge" position, kick a ball.
